Find a free book and read it right here.
Search Project Gutenberg by title, author or subject, browse the matches as a library of cards, and open any one of them into a clean, full-width reading column.

Directly under the grid the run prints coverage — the total number of Project Gutenberg matches the source reported — next to next_page. If next_page is empty, the cards above are every match; if it holds a value, more pages of results exist at the source. Neither figure is estimated or replaced here.
Good to know
How a card opens into the reading view
- Each card's primary action opens that book's text/html URL from the result's
formatsobject. - If no HTML format exists, it falls back to the plain-text format URL.
- If neither is present, it falls back to the book's Project Gutenberg page.
- The reading view is one scrolling column with a generous line-height, so long chapters stay readable.
About text size and reading mode
Text size and reading mode are display settings for this session only. They change how the reading column looks in this browser tab right now and are not saved, synced, or sent with your search.
What each card shows
- Title — plain, as catalogued.
- Author(s) — as listed on the record.
- Language — the code you filtered on.
- Download count — the source's own popularity figure, not a rating.
The run also returns source and source_status, so you can see where the results came from and whether the catalogue answered cleanly.
